XXV Settimana della Lingua Italiana nel Mondo
The 25th Week of the Italian Language and Culture in the World takes place from October 13 to 19, 2025, celebrating the global reach and vitality of the Italian language. This year’s theme, “Italophony: Language Beyond Borders,” highlights the idea of Italian as a bridge connecting diverse communities and cultures worldwide.
Promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the network of Italian Cultural Institutes, the initiative features conferences, readings, concerts, and educational activities. Its goal is to showcase Italian as a language of creativity, dialogue, and cultural exchange, reinforcing its role in building connections across generations and continents.
To find out where Italian is studied around the world, you can consult the interesting and detailed research published in the online journal Dialoghi Mediterranei at this link: https://www.istitutoeuroarabo.it/DM/gli-studenti-della-lingua-italiana-nel-mondo-un-approfondimento-statistico/. It opens up a world rich in numbers, showing how many people across all continents study Italian.
For the 25th Week of the Italian Language and Culture in the World, we would like to dedicate this edition to the writer Jhumpa Lahiri, whose profound connection with the Italian language has shaped her literary journey. Lahiri embraced Italian not only as a means of expression but as a transformative experience, writing essays and novels entirely in Italian. Her works, such as In altre parole and Dove mi trovo, explore themes of identity, belonging, and linguistic rebirth, demonstrating how language can become a space for creativity and self-discovery beyond borders.
